BANATSOCCERSHIELDWe head to the desert to kick off this month’s rankings as Banat SC 99B Gold, the 2011 Arizona State Champions (B12 Gold), come in at No. 10. The Avondale club blitzed its way through the President’s Day Tournament 2012 (B13 Premier) in February, going 6-0 with a massive 20-4 goal differential. The team shut out NM Rush Nike 99 3-0 in the final to take the title.

Banat, coached by Jesus Ruiz, is also a perfect 6-0 in the 2011-2012 State League Season II (B13 AZSL Division I), including a 7-0 win over America 99 of Arizona. The team had a monster November, capturing trophies at three tournaments - the 32nd Annual Pros Elite Thanksgiving Tournament (B13 B Elite), the Banat Southwest Challenge 2011 (B13 Gold) and the Kick for the Cure 2011 (B13) event.

Solar-Chelsea-smallFootball may be a way of life in Texas, but a younger generation of players are making their mark in the beautiful game, like the 2011 North Texas State Cup (B12 B) champions, Solar Chelsea 99B Red. Solar won an astonishing eight tournament and league titles in 2011 and is poised to continue that run this spring.

In September, the Dallas club won the Arlington Labor Day Shootout Tournament (B13 B), going 5-0 with a huge 39-2 goal differential. They blew out the TFC 99 Boys 7-0 in the championship match to win that title. In December, the squad claimed the TFC Blue Cup 2011 (B13 Red) crown, romping through five more games while outscoring its opponents 35-1. Solar also dominated the ASG Adidas Invitational (B12) event, sweeping five games and beating the FC Dallas Youth 99B Premier 2-0 in the tourney final.

Coached by Nuno Passos, the team consists of Christian A., Adam B., Julian B., Abraham D., Carlos F., Edgar G., Jackson G., Victor G., Rooks H., Jackson J., Javier J., Sebastian K., Javier L., Alberto M., Koli M., Luke O., Jack W and Reid Y.

No. 8 NYSC 98-99

nyscNYSC 98-99 has established itself as not only the top team in New York - its win at the New York East State Cup 2011 (B12 Flight) solidified that - but one of the finest squads in Region I. The only thing holding the Manhattan team back from the upper crust of our rankings was a recent 2-0 semi-final loss to No. 6 Everton America CT at the Manhattan Soccer Kickoff Classic 2012 (B13 Platinum) in March.

The team recorded its signature win of the past year over the No. 1 SDFC Rangers in the final of the MAPS Cup 2011 (B13 B MAPS Cup) tournament in November, where NYSC gutted out a 1-0 victory. The club went 3-1 at that event and also notched a 3-2 win over the powerful Beachside of Connecticut along the way. In October, the club also reached the semis of the YMS Columbus Cup (B13 Elite North) and made the final four of the Region I Regionals (B12 Championship) last summer.

Guided by Mark Heffernan, the roster includes Noah Lawrence, Jackson Corrigan, Danny Cannon, Mark Preschern, Anthony Portale, Matthew Toal, Kristian Shkreli, Abi Galligan, Jack Reyna, Jack Beer, Tommy Langkafel, Christian Geddes, Fernando Doctors, David Noel, Enzo Sangiacomo, Fazl Shaikh, Dante Polvara, Michael Branca and Corey Levine.

west-chester-united-sc-smallThe No. 7 West Chester United SC Predators 98 catapulted onto our list with their win at the 2012 Jefferson Cup Boys Showcase (B13 Championship) tournament in March. The top team in eastern Pennsylvania, West Chester went 3-1 at that event and defeated the Charlotte United FC 98 Gold 1-0 in a heart-stopping championship match. The Predators also notched a 3-0 win over the CASL 98 Elite Black earlier in the tournament.

The club, coached by Mark Thomas, won the EDP Fall 2011 (B13 B EDP First) league, going 3-1-1 including a 3-0 shutout of our No. 8 NYSC 98-99. The squad also reached the semifinals of the YMS Columbus Cup (B13 Championship), falling short of the No. 1 SDFC Rangers in a tough 2-1 decision. The team recorded a 3-0 win over the Rangers in September, however, in EDP play.

Led by Alex Cunliffe, the team also won the Peter Renzulli Labor Day Tournament (B13 Premier Green) in September, downing Eastern FC CT Liverpool 2-0 in the title game. In November, the team claimed the MAPS Cup 2011 (B13 B EDP Cup) title, going 3-1-0 during the event and shutting out the East Meadow SC Hawks 98 4-0 in the final.
