New Jersey Devils Top Junior Flyers To Win Shoot Out (1998)

Philadelphia, PA (Youth 1)-The 2010 Ice Line Philadelphia Memorial Day Shootout's 1998 division had several AYHL teams among its participants including the host Philadelphia JR Flyers, New Jersey Devils, Mercer Chiefs, Washington All Stars which was comprised of mostly players from Team Maryland and the Valley Forge Minutemen. The divisions were broken into a North Division with 4 AYHL teams and a South Division that included teams from Pennsylvania, NJ and Delaware. The preliminary rounds had some very hard fought games with five of the twelve games played ending in ties. After the Prelim's, four teams moved onto the semi-final playoff round. The Flyers and the devils98celebrateQuakers landed the #1 seeds and the Valley Forge Minutemen and the NJ Devils qualified as #2 seeds. The North division proved to be very strong as the Flyers and Devils won handily in the Semi Finals and set up a rematch in the Finals. The two teams played earlier in the tournament's second round of prelims and battled to a hard fought 5-5 tie. Both teams have made some dramatic roster moves in the past several months and this was a great look into how these teams will look this upcoming season. In the final, the Devils broke out early and never looked back as they defeated the Flyers 6-1 to claim the Championship in the 1998 Division. The Devils got great play in net from both of their goaltenders, Danny Porth and Peter Negron as well as stellar defensive play from Andrew Petrillo, Luc Roberts, Ryan Dallow, Marc Tietjen and Sam Schappel. Up front the revamped Devils offense had a great weekend led by Jack Bloem, Danny Cangelosi, Bjorn Kvaale, Daniel Farr, Thomas Lamacchia, Harry Bahrenburg, Matthew Lavalette, Noah Williams and Alex Borowiec.
